I acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which I live and work, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. I pay my deepest respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded.
This body of work focuses on my mother and idol, Sue, and our relationship together. Mum predominantly raised me and my brother alone; we worked together at her and Sharman's beloved Happy River Cafe for several years, and I lived with her till well into my 20's. These, in combination with our aligned values, interests and personalities, have allowed us to develop a deep bond over time. All images were made in the home that she has lived for the past twenty years. Unlike the traditions of the family photo album, I wanted this series to portray my genuine observations and experiences shared with my mum. These include the seemingly simple or quiet moments, that in fact hold great sentimentality. I seek to celebrate these moments and share the various fragments of mum’s life. The series began as a folio project for Photography Studies College which I will continue, like most of my work, as a long form project. Thanks for agreeing to be photographed and sitting still for me mum.
